Technical English
By Kamil Hejda
I would like to put into words some my thoughts about technical English and compare differences between it and common English.
On arrival in the Czech Technical University (CTU) I started attending the class for advanced students. I was very surprised how technical English, full of technical terms, can be different from common English, which common people use. Perhaps I can say that it looks like another world. There are only few things similar in both cases. But there are other worlds. Every specialized profession needs its own English. For example I can name lawyers, economists, politicians, mathematicians, physicists, civil engineers and many others. All these professions need special English to do their work. For that reason I think
it is very important to learn technical English
using electrical and electronic technical texts because we are at CTU and we need them. Without knowledge of expressions and words as a capacitor, transistor, electric current, voltage and many others we are lost.
So I hope that the trend will continue because it is the best possible way I think.
